These Emmy Awards nominees call Hollywood North home

The B.C. filmed FX series Shōgun is heading into this year’s Emmy Awards leading the pack with 25 nominations. Helping that count are some talented folks from here in Hollywood North.

Former Vancouver Film School (VFS) students Emily Walsh and Suzie Kilmack have both been nominated for their makeup work on Shōgun’s inaugural season.

Walsh is one of the Shōgun team members nominated in the Outstanding Period or Fantasy/Sci-Fi Makeup (Non-Prosthetic) category and Klimack is in the group nominated in the Outstanding Prosthetic Makeup category.

“(It) still feels surreal to be nominated but looking forward to celebrating with the team this weekend,” said Vancouver’s Walsh who attended VFS in 2016. “It definitely is a career highlight for sure!”

Like Walsh, Vancouver’s Klimack, who went to VFS in 2008, says the Emmy nod “feels surreal,” and the nomination and potential win could mean “bigger and better opportunities” for her career.

Also landing Emmy noms this year for work on Shōgun are Vancouver casting agents Maureen Webb and Colleen Bolton. The pair are nominated in the Outstanding Casting for a Drama Series category.

The makeup and casting awards will be given out on Sept. 7 and 8 during the 76th Primetime Creative Arts Emmy Awards which honour the best in artistic and technical achievement in American prime time television programming. The awards will be broadcast on FXX. The Primetime Emmy Awards show follows a week later on ABC on Sept. 15 at 8 p.m.

Heading into Emmy Awards Netflix leads all nominees with a total of 107 noms (across 35 programs), followed by FX with 93 (nine programs), HBO with 91 (29 programs) and Apple TV+ with 72 (16 programs).
